STAINLESS STEEL POLISHING — WHAT IT IS AND HOW WE DO IT
Stainless steel polishing is the process of removing surface rust, scratches, heat discoloration, and oxidation from stainless steel to restore — or achieve for the first time — a brilliant mirror finish. Stainless is naturally corrosion-resistant, but it still accumulates surface damage over time, especially on pieces that see heat, moisture, or heavy use.
A properly polished stainless surface is more than cosmetic — it's easier to clean, more resistant to surface corrosion, and looks like chrome without any coatingthat can peel or chip. Because it's bare metal, the finish can always be restored with a buff.
We work on stainless steel pieces across a wide range of applications — from exhaust tips and pipes to marine hardware, fuel tanks, and custom fabricated parts. Call (469) 383-4724 and tell us what you have.
STAINLESS VS. ALUMINUM — WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
We get asked this a lot. The short answer: both can reach a mirror finish, but they behave very differently.
STAINLESS STEEL
- Harder — takes more time and effort to cut
- Holds its shine longer, more corrosion-resistant
- Better choice for heat exposure (exhaust, marine)
- Heat discoloration must be removed before polishing
- Ideal for pieces that see the elements regularly
ALUMINUM
- Softer — polishes faster
- Re-oxidizes more quickly without maintenance
- Better for intricate shapes and castings
- More common on wheels, engine parts, and boats
- Great finish for show pieces and builds

WHAT STAINLESS PIECES DO WE POLISH?
We work on a wide range of stainless steel pieces:
- Exhaust pipes, tips, and headers (including heat discoloration removal)
- Stainless fuel tanks and toolboxes
- Marine hardware — cleats, railings, grab rails, fittings
- Custom fabricated stainless parts and brackets
- Roll cages and chassis components
- Fittings, clamps, and connectors
- Stainless turbo manifolds and downpipes

OUR WORK
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How is stainless polishing different from aluminum polishing?
Stainless is harder than aluminum — it takes more aggressive abrasives and more time to cut. Stainless also holds its finish longer and resists re-oxidation better. The process is the same idea (progressive stages), but the tooling and compounds are different.
Can you remove heat discoloration and bluing from stainless?
Yes. Heat discoloration on stainless exhaust (blue, gold, rainbow tint) is one of the most common things we deal with. It requires extra removal steps before polishing, but we remove it completely.
Will stainless rust after polishing?
Polished stainless is actually more corrosion-resistant than raw or scratched stainless — the smooth surface has no pits where moisture can accumulate. With basic maintenance it holds up for years.
What's the difference between a brushed finish and a mirror polish?
A brushed finish has a directional grain pattern that diffuses light. A mirror polish is fully reflective — you can see yourself in it. We do mirror polishing, not brushed finishing.
